What this tool can handle

We set no limit on how many files you use or how big they are. The real limit is your device's memory: each file is read whole, copied while it is worked on, and the result is built in memory too, so a job needs several times the size of its files.

Rough guide: a laptop or desktop copes with a few hundred megabytes in total; a phone, about a hundred. In our own test on a recent Mac, merging six files of 100 MB each (600 MB in all) took about two seconds, and splitting one 200 MB file into ten parts took about two seconds too. Those were simple test files; real documents with thousands of small objects take longer.

We have not tested every phone, so big files may fail on yours. If a job fails, use fewer or smaller files at a time.

Check for yourself that nothing is uploaded
  1. Open the page and wait for it to load fully.
  2. Turn off Wi-Fi, or switch on airplane mode.
  3. Add your files and run the tool. It keeps working, because the work happens in this tab and not on a server.
  4. For a closer look, open your browser's developer tools, choose the Network tab and run the tool again: no request carries your files.

How to reorder, rotate and delete PDF pages

  1. Add the PDF. Drag a PDF onto the box or choose it. Every page appears as a small picture, drawn as you scroll.
  2. Turn the sideways pages. Use Left or Right under a page to turn it a quarter turn. Turn all left and Turn all right do the whole file at once.
  3. Delete what you do not need. Press Delete under a page. It stays in place, dimmed and marked, so you can restore it before you save.
  4. Move pages around. Drag a page to a new spot, or use Earlier and Later. The place number under each page updates as you go.
  5. Check the summary. A line under the pages counts how many are kept, deleted and turned. Undo all changes puts everything back.
  6. Save the new PDF. Press Save. The new file has your pages in your order, and your original is left alone.

Turning pages the right way

Scanners and phone apps often produce a page on its side, or a whole file upside down. Left and Right turn a page by a quarter turn, and pressing twice makes a half turn. The thumbnail turns at once, so you can see the result before you save.

The turn is stored on the page, as a viewer expects, rather than by redrawing it. The text inside stays text. If a page was already turned in the original, the new turn is added to it.

Deleting pages without regret

Nothing is removed until you save. A deleted page stays in the grid, dimmed and marked as Will be deleted, with a Restore button where Delete was. The summary line keeps count, and the Save button is disabled if every page is marked, because a PDF with no pages is not a PDF.

  • Blank sheets from a double-sided scan.
  • A cover page or an advertisement you do not want to send.
  • A page with details you would rather not share.

Deleting a page removes it from the new file. If a page holds something sensitive and you are sharing the original, remember that the original still has it.

Moving pages, with a mouse or without

Dragging works well with a mouse. On a phone, with a keyboard, or with a screen reader, use the Earlier and Later buttons under each page. Each press moves the page one place, and a status message says where it landed. Focus stays on the button you pressed, so you can press it again to keep moving the same page.

The grid shows the current order from left to right and then down. Place numbers count only the pages you keep, so they always match the page numbers of the file you will download.

Common fixes, step by step

A scan came out upside down

Press Turn all right twice for a half turn of the whole file. If only some pages are wrong, turn those pages one by one.

The pages are in the wrong order

Find the page that is out of place and press Earlier or Later until its place number is right. Moving one page at a time is easier to follow than several at once.

There are blank pages in the middle

Mark each blank page with Delete. The summary line tells you how many will go before you save.

You want a different cover

Delete the old cover here, then use the merge tool to put a new first page in front of the result.

Long files

Thumbnails are drawn only when they come near the screen, one at a time, so a file with hundreds of pages does not freeze the page. The file is held in your device's memory while you work, so very large files may be slow or fail, particularly on a phone. A memory meter shows what you have loaded against a rough guide.

Bookmarks and fillable form fields are not carried into the new file. The page tells you when your file has them.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to rotate or reorder it?

No. The file is read in your browser, drawn as thumbnails there, and saved from there. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I rotate just one page?

Yes. Use Left or Right under that page. Turn all left and Turn all right change every page.

Can I undo a deletion?

Until you save, yes. Press Restore under the page, or Undo all changes to start again.

Will my text still be searchable?

Yes. Pages are copied with their turn set, not redrawn as pictures.

Why do the place numbers differ from the original page numbers?

Place numbers count only the pages you keep, in their new order. They match the file you will download.

How do I move a page with the keyboard?

Tab to the Earlier or Later button under it and press Enter or Space. A message announces the new place.

Why did my form fields stop working?

Fillable fields and bookmarks are not carried into the new file. What was typed in them shows on the page, but you can no longer edit it.
